WHO WE ARE

A Distinct Identity

Hetauda Community Eye Hospital , a branch of Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology has been providing comprehensive quality eye care  to the people of Makwanpur and its surrounding districts since its establishment in November 2008.

HISTORY

Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmolgy (TIO ) established a primary eye care center ( CEC) in 2001 which provided service to patients for 8 years . Due to the increasing number of patients and the lack of quality eye care in Makwanpur district TIO decided to upgrade its CEC in to a community eye hospital which was established in November of 2008. This project was supported by the Himalayan Cataract Project and the Vision Himalya Foundation .

I have learnt a lot from the Hetauda Community Eye Hospital in terms of it being a great model of community eye care which is potentially transferrable to many countries across the globe. The people working in the unit are incredibly friendly and generous, and have made my experience an incredible one I won’t forget. Thank you for such an incredible experience, I hope to have the chance to visit again one day soon.
